Egídio Lopes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eliézer Moraes in the 3rd minute of the match. In the 8th minute, one of Phoenix:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Phoenix. Afonso Barral struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Egídio Lopes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lobao SS. Eliézer Moraes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Phoenix's Uriel De Paula got a free kick in the 18th minute. After some careless play in the Lobao SS defense, Uriel De Paula kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sidney Seco. The Lobao SS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sidney Seco should have stopped the shot. Afonsinho Britto's late challenge caught a Lobao SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Afonsinho Britto helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Phoenix getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Afonsinho Britto hit a great ball. Luiz Fábio da Costa hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sérgio Bittencourt in the 36th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sidney Seco prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpected shot in the 38th minute by Falcão Abraão got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 45 minutes into the match, Phoenix's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Barral came free, but Egídio Lopes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sérgio Bittencourt to make the kick off. Pedro Augusto Goiano hit a great freekick 50 minutes into the match. In the 56th play minute Eliézer Moraes came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Egídio Lopes. 2-2. In the 59th minute, Uriel De Paula left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Phoenix fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. In the 65th minute, Antônio Mendonça hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sidney Seco stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sérgio Bittencourt's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. If Falcão Abraão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Phoenix's supporters rose to their feet, but Falcão Abraão was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sidney Seco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 90 minutes, Eliézer Moraes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lobao SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eliézer Moraes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Afonso Barral was extremely unlucky when he, in the 92nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. In the 92nd minute Afonso Barral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Egídio Lopes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee ended the match the Phoenix players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
