Spectators: 6668 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1668, VIP seats: 0) Caio Freitas started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Flavinho Tande's late challenge caught a Petrolina AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Flavinho Tande helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Petrolina AD booed when Flamengo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Flavinho Tande didn't get a good kick on the ball. Petrolina AD's Augusto Pombal couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 8th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Flamengo. Thomás Munhoz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Válter Queirós having to make a save. After 14 minutes, Jonas Tasso mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Petrolina AD and the Flamengo players grew even worse after the yellow card. Jonas Tasso kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. Válter Queirós showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caio Freitas in the 16th minute of the match. After 17 played minutes Petrolina AD got a freekick which was hit by Cauã Pombal. Petrolina AD's Válter Queirós played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Caio Freitas in the 21st minute of play. Petrolina AD's Valdemar Cordeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 35 minutes of play, Flamengo's Caio Freitas made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Válter Queirós was left in no man's land by his defense there! Thomás Munhoz struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Válter Queirós didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Flamengo. When Caio Freitas came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Flamengo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Caio Freitas couldn't finish the play. Válter Queirós showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thomás Munhoz in the 43rd minute of the match. After 44 played minutes Flamengo got a freekick which was hit by José Senna. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Valdemar Cordeiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 57 minutes, Caio Freitas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Flamengo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Caio Freitas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Caio Freitas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thomás Munhoz got free with Válter Queirós in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A hard shot by Flavinho Tande from long distance, 75 minutes into the match, got Válter Queirós's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. When Laerte Fernandes came up free with the goalie in the 76th minute, the Petrolina AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Laerte Fernandes couldn't finish the play. Thomás Munhoz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Válter Queirós having to interfere. In the 85th minute, Remo Negri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Flamengo's Adalberto Secco couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 86th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Petrolina AD. Caio Freitas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Válter Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valdemar Cordeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Caio Freitas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Flamengo's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
