An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorge Vidal in the 17th minute of play forced Samphyion FC's goalkeeper Mauro Lira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sport Clube Salvador's goalkeeper Fiori Cosme, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 21stth minute of the game Hílton Prata who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Samphyion FC's Mauro Lira was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 23rd minute, Tarcisio Vander hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gino Xavier was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 26th minute. Samphyion FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Gino Xavier blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fiori Cosme having to make a save. If Emanuel Reis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Marcelinho Gerber came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Samphyion FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marcelinho Gerber couldn't finish the play. Mauro Lira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tarcisio Vander in the 38th minute of play. After some careless play in the Samphyion FC defense, Tarcisio Vander kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mauro Lira. The Samphyion FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mauro Lira should have stopped the shot. 47 minutes into the match, Samphyion FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jorge Vidal came free, but Mauro Lira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gino Xavier to strike the kick off in the second half. Samphyion FC's Mauro Lira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to save Samphyion FC from getting a goal against them. The crowd rose to their feet as Sport Clube Salvador's Jorge Vidal slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mauro Lira. That made the score 0-3 after 59 minutes of play. Hílton Prata came free with the goalkeeper in the 63rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Mauro Lira could save by the left post. 64 minutes into the game, Tarcisio Vander recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Mauro Lira. Tarcisio Vander showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-4. A hard shot by Luiz Fábio Baiano from long distance, 70 minutes into the match, got Mauro Lira's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Samphyion FC's Mauro Lira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Samphyion FC from getting a goal against them. 79 minutes into the game, Jorge Vidal was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sport Clube Salvador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Samphyion FC the free kick. Jorge Vidal kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. Marcelinho Gerber sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 85th minute, Gino Xavier got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fiori Cosme took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gino Xavier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Sport Clube Salvador's zone, Gino Xavier stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fiori Cosme came out of the goal and Gino Xavier tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
