The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Canicora SS's Carlos Alberto Barral got a good chance for a goal in the 4th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Afonsinho de Castro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Isaltino Correia in the 6th minute of the match. After 7 played minutes Canicora SS got a freekick which was hit by Cássio Melo. With his leg Nico Esteves managed to avoid a goal in the 8thth minute, when Freicheiras SC's Leandro Valle fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Pedro Luiz Meireles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a rather tough play, Canicora SS's Isaltino Correia got a free kick in the 12th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Leandro Valle got free with Nico Esteves in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Matos in the 18th minute of play forced Freicheiras SC's goalkeeper Afonsinho de Castro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Afonsinho de Castro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isaltino Correia in the 19th minute of play. 22 minutes into the match, Freicheiras SC's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Barral came free, but Afonsinho de Castro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 23 minutes into the game, one of Freicheiras SC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Carlos Alberto Barral could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Afonsinho de Castro made a huge save. Afonsinho de Castro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Isaltino Correia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
