In the 16th minute of the match Renato Meirelles shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rui Barros showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Maricoabo's Alexsandro Rossi, in the 18th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Maricoabo. In a very dangerous position, a player in Americanos fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 21st minute. Penalty! Alexsandro Rossi took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Rui Barros. Rui Barros dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Miguel Félix during the 31st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Americanos getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Miguel Félix hit a great ball. In the 34th minute Sidnei Bertassi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Barros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 35th minute, Sidnei Bertassi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alexsandro Rossi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Americanos's zone, Dionísio Koehler stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rui Barros came out of the goal and Dionísio Koehler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rui Barros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alexsandro Rossi, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Válter Vasconcelos to strike the kick off in the second half. Sérgio Reis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Válter Vasconcelos in the 54th minute of play. In the 61st minute, Sidnei Bertassi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Alexsandro Rossi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Válter Vasconcelos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sérgio Reis having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Maricoabo's zone, Waldemar Bueno stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sérgio Reis came out of the goal and Waldemar Bueno tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 78 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Americanos! Rui Barros went to the wrong direction when Custódio Pombal was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. After 81 played minutes Americanos got a freekick which was hit by Waldemar Bueno. If Sidnei Bertassi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Maricoabo's Alexsandro Rossi slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Rui Barros. That made the score 0-3 after 88 minutes of play. Rui Barros made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sidnei Bertassi in the 93rd minute. In the 94th minute, Alexsandro Rossi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Maricoabo's Sérgio Reis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Válter Vasconcelos in the 97th minute of play.
