Seating: 1667, VIP seats: 144) Vito Guimarães might have been able to make a better finish in the 3rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquim Braga. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Vito Guimarães ran back to his position shaking his head. Geovanni de Barros struck a weak shot in the 5th minute. Joaquim Braga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vasco. 10 minutes into the game, Vasco's Juan Diniz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joaquim Braga made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. João Paulo Secco charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed João Paulo Secco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 15 minutes, Geovanni de Barros made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. Glyceria's Joaquim Braga tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Vasco getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Nilmar Severo hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Juan Diniz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vasco's supporters rose to their feet, but Juan Diniz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquim Braga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that João Paulo Secco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Chico Perez was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. 31 minutes into the match, João Paulo Secco dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Chico Perez, 1-2. Joaquim Braga came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Vasco's Juan Diniz. But to his dismay, Juan Diniz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Vito Guimarães hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Juan Diniz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Braga having to interfere. After 47 minutes, Fernandinho Montenegro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Glyceria and the Vasco players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Vasco booed when Glyceria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fernandinho Montenegro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half Vasco were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Geovanni de Barros made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Geovanni de Barros left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Vasco fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. Joaquim Braga made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Geovanni de Barros in the 59th minute of play. João Paulo Secco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Chico Perez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 65 minutes into the match, Glyceria's goalkeeper Joaquim Braga had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juan Diniz. João Paulo Secco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Chico Perez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If João Adolfo Perez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chico Perez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Paulo Secco in the 72nd minute of play. 75 minutes into the match, Vasco's Juan Diniz sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Joaquim Braga narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Célio Zonta took the ball and in the 76 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Chico Perez. Chico Perez dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. When Juan Diniz came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Vasco fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Juan Diniz couldn't finish the play. In the 87th match minute, Glyceria was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Célio Zonta to maneuver through the defense. Geovanni de Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Juan Diniz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Braga having to interfere. When the final whistle sounded Vasco left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Glyceria.
