In the 8th match minute, Grota was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amauri Magalhães to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Banda EC booed when Grota was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amauri Magalhães didn't get a good kick on the ball. Antônio Carlos Cunha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juninho Coutinho having to interfere. After recieving a nice pass, Grota's Fabrício Marques tried to score from far away in the 46th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

50 minutes into the game, Oséias Barros was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Banda EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grota the free kick. After 51 played minutes Banda EC got a freekick which was hit by Oséias Barros. In the 56th minute Oséias Barros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gonçalo Alagoano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oséias Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gonçalo Alagoano didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Walmir Queirós went, in the 63rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Amauri Magalhães hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. After having played for 77 minutes, Leopoldo Donato managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grota's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leopoldo Donato was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 84 minutes into the match, Banda EC's Oséias Barros sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gonçalo Alagoano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Grota's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Banda EC had won, even though Grota had held more of the ball.
