The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Belmiro Arantes hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Luís Paulo Passos's late challenge caught a Pompa FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Luís Paulo Passos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 21st minute, Luís Paulo Passos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 25th minute, Joélson Furtado got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 28 minutes into the match, Pompa FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jarbas Peres came free, but Ramiro de Salles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 28 played minutes Pompa FC got a freekick which was hit by Cleiton de Sousa. If Paulo Pitta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 38th minute, Arnaldo Seco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paulo Pitta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 44 minutes into the match, Pompa FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jarbas Peres came free, but Ramiro de Salles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Paulo Pitta to strike the kick off in the second half. When the match clock showed 53 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Joélson Furtado sped through Pombinhos SC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Kaká Pires. With a little luck, Pompa FC's Ramiro de Salles got control of the ball when Jarbas Peres tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 69th minute Joélson Furtado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kaká Pires saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 72nd match minute, Pombinhos SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kléberson Guerra to maneuver through the defense. After 74 played minutes, Pompa FC's Michel Rezende shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Kaká Pires came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Pompa FC reached it. Jarbas Peres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ramiro de Salles having to interfere. 79 minutes into the game, Arnaldo Meireles was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pompa FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Pombinhos SC the free kick. After 79 played minutes Pompa FC got a freekick which was hit by Arnaldo Meireles. In the 80th minute, Pombinhos SC's Paulo Pitta dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. In the 84th minute, Arnaldo Seco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arnaldo Meireles in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kaká Pires prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 89th match minute, Pompa FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcelo Dantas to maneuver through the defense. Kaká Pires took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joélson Furtado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Paulo Pitta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pombinhos SC's Jarbas Peres got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pompa FC succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Pombinhos SC had controlled the match.
