The referee ignored Bahia's protests and gave Lúcio Pereira a yellow card for diving instead. After 12 played minutes Bahia got a freekick which was hit by Lúcio Pereira. The attack was good, but when Zézinho Mangueira in the 16th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. André Luiz de Alcântara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Daniel Souto having to interfere. Gildo Lopes's late challenge caught a Guai FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
