João Vítor Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frank Pitta having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Marco Montenegro in the 6th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Frank Pitta saved Arrelia EC from getting behind. 6 minutes into the game, Hernani de Almeida was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Arrelia EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vanderley the free kick. In the 7th minute, Hernani de Almeida hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Vanderley fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when Vanderley's Lenílson Amorim looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 21 minutes into the match, Vanderley's goalkeeper André Luiz Paulista had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jailson Motta. 23 minutes into the match, Arrelia EC's goal looked a bit too open when Lenílson Amorim came free, but Frank Pitta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Vanderley's Lenílson Amorim in the 25th minute got a chance for a shot 25th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Arrelia EC's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lenílson Amorim in the 26th minute of play forced Arrelia EC's goalkeeper Frank Pitta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 26 minutes of play, Vanderley's Lenílson Amorim made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Frank Pitta was left in no man's land by his defense there! Frank Pitta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lenílson Amorim, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Vanderley's André Luiz Paulista got control of the ball when Jailson Motta tried to sneak it across the goal line. Vanderley's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Walmir Antunes in the 35th minute. The corner ended in Walmir Antunes almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Arrelia EC's Frank Pitta did a great save. Dedé Tróia hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. When Vanderley's Lenílson Amorim in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Arrelia EC's goalie prevented a goal. Lenílson Amorim received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Frank Pitta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Frank Pitta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marco Montenegro in the 45th minute of the match. The attack was good, but when Jailson Motta in the 50th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marco Montenegro was the one to do the kick off. After 55 played minutes Arrelia EC got a freekick which was hit by Serginho Abreu. In the 59thth minute of the game Marco Montenegro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Arrelia EC's Frank Pitta was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. André Luiz Paulista showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jailson Motta, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. André Luiz Paulista made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cido de Brito in the 66th minute of play. If Lenílson Amorim had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arrelia EC's Frank Pitta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marco Montenegro in the 73rd minute of play. In the 76th minute, Marco Montenegro fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. When Marco Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Vanderley fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marco Montenegro couldn't finish the play. Jailson Motta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Walmir Antunes's late challenge caught a Arrelia EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Walmir Antunes helped the player get up and apologised. In the 84th minute, one of Vanderley:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Vanderley. Cido de Brito's late challenge caught a Vanderley's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cido de Brito helped the player get up and apologised. In the 89th match minute, Arrelia EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cido de Brito to maneuver through the defense. André Luiz Paulista made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dênis Lara in the 97th minute of play. After 100 played minutes Vanderley got a freekick which was hit by Zé Augusto do Valle. The Vanderley supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Vanderley would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
