The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute, Zé Carlos Negri left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cauipe fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Walmir Catarinense in the 6th minute of play forced Cauipe's goalkeeper Bruno Mazza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zé Carlos Negri struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Válbson Vinhas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cauipe. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oséas de Sena in the 10th minute of play forced Presidente's goalkeeper Válbson Vinhas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Oséas de Sena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Válbson Vinhas having to interfere. After having played for 20 minutes, Oséas de Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cauipe's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oséas de Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Oséas de Sena's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Válbson Vinhas was relentless in the 25th minute of the game. Oséas de Sena struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Válbson Vinhas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cauipe. After a defensive mix-up in Presidente's zone, Oséas de Sena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Válbson Vinhas came out of the goal and Oséas de Sena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 33 minutes into the game, Oséas de Sena cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Válbson Vinhas was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Zé Carlos Negri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Válbson Vinhas having to interfere. Válbson Vinhas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oséas de Sena in the 45th minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

Francisco Melo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 58th minute of the match Cauipe got a corner. Presidente's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tiaguinho Penha ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Gil de Azevedo heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. If Zé Carlos Negri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Presidente's Válbson Vinhas got control of the ball when Zé Carlos Negri tried to sneak it across the goal line. Válbson Vinhas made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Zé Carlos Negri sent off a good shot on target. After 72 minutes, Renato Chaves mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Presidente and the Cauipe players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 72 played minutes Presidente got a freekick which was hit by Renato Chaves. Bruno Mazza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Basílio Senna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zé Carlos Negri struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Válbson Vinhas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cauipe. After a rather tough play, Presidente's Tibúrcio Gerber got a free kick in the 83rd minute. Presidente's Válbson Vinhas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oséas de Sena in the 85th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Cauipe's zone, Walmir Catarinense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bruno Mazza came out of the goal and Walmir Catarinense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Zé Carlos Negri managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cauipe's supporters rose to their feet, but Zé Carlos Negri was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Válbson Vinhas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Francisco Melo came up free with the goalie in the 98th minute, the Cauipe fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francisco Melo couldn't finish the play. When the final whistle sounded Cauipe left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Presidente.
