The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Rafael Felipez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Guilherme Brodel having to interfere. Gremio Clube Catarinense's Mateus Ceresso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Gremio Clube Catarinense from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Vazante booed when Gremio Clube Catarinense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Guilherme Meireles didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 25th minute, Vito Sampaio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luís Guilherme Brodel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Valério Zonta in the 28th minute of play. After 30 played minutes Vazante got a freekick which was hit by Willian Ceresso. 33 minutes into the game, Marquinhos Nunes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gremio Clube Catarinense's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vazante the free kick. In the 33rd match minute, Gremio Clube Catarinense was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marquinhos Nunes to maneuver through the defense. Luís Guilherme Brodel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valério Zonta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Valério Zonta's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luís Guilherme Brodel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Giovanni de Azevedo to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rafael Felipez got free with Luís Guilherme Brodel in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ciro Neves charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ciro Neves the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 54 played minutes Vazante got a freekick which was hit by Ciro Neves. 55 minutes into the game, Valério Zonta cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Luís Guilherme Brodel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Giovanni de Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Mateus Ceresso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 72 minutes into the match, Gremio Clube Catarinense's Valério Zonta sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Luís Guilherme Brodel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a little luck, Vazante's Luís Guilherme Brodel got control of the ball when Rafael Felipez tried to sneak it across the goal line. 79 minutes into the match, Gremio Clube Catarinense's goal looked a bit too open when Giovanni de Azevedo came free, but Mateus Ceresso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 92nd minute Valério Zonta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Guilherme Brodel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 97 minutes, João Francisco Figueiredo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vazante and the Gremio Clube Catarinense players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 96th minute of the game. One of Vazante:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Gremio Clube Catarinense:s goal. Rafael Felipez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 100th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gremio Clube Catarinense's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
