The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gilson Quadros could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 8th minute of the match, but Gordon Banks made a huge save. Thebus AD's Júlio Linhares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bomikaze Primo in the 9th minute of play. ISABELA F. C.'s Gordon Banks proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save ISABELA F. C. from getting a goal against them. Gustavo das Neves hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. The supporters of ISABELA F. C. booed when Thebus AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eder Aleixo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júlio Linhares having to interfere. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind ISABELA F. C.'s goalkeeper Gordon Banks, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gilson Quadros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Banks having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Germano Cabral made the kick off in the second half. If Gilson Quadros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 58th minute Germano Cabral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gordon Banks saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Frank Linhares charged in rather forcefully in the 58th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Frank Linhares the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Gordon Banks breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Thebus AD fans cheered their team off the field, for while ISABELA F. C. had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
