Horizonte EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cerebrande the free kick. After a rather tough play, Horizonte EC's Aírton Bastos got a free kick in the 22nd minute. 32 minutes into the match, Cerebrande's goal looked a bit too open when Silvinho Romero came free, but Elano Machado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carlos Alberto Nunes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Dedê Soeiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marco de Lima couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Marco de Lima managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cerebrande's supporters rose to their feet, but Marco de Lima was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Alberto Nunes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 42 minutes into the game, Cerebrande's Silas Seco nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Carlos Alberto Nunes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Dedê Soeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Elano Machado came out of the goal and Silvinho Romero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Marco de Lima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
