After 21 played minutes, Horizonte EC's Zeca de Amaral shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Oséas Freitas came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Horizonte EC reached it. Váldson Lopez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oséas Freitas having to interfere. In the 29th minute, Silvinho Romero left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Horizonte EC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Váldson Lopez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 46th minute, Charles Tepedino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Esponjas do Couto's Oséas Freitas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Esponjas do Couto from getting a goal against them. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Váldson Lopez to make the kick off. Oséas Freitas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Váldson Lopez, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Váldson Lopez managed to get in a good position for a shot. Horizonte EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Váldson Lopez was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Oséas Freitas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Váldson Lopez in the 56th minute of play forced Esponjas do Couto's goalkeeper Oséas Freitas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marquinhos Abreu struck a weak shot in the 61st minute. Oséas Freitas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Horizonte EC. When Silvinho Romero came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Horizonte EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Silvinho Romero couldn't finish the play. If Murillo Albuquerque had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th minute of the match Celso Terra shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Carlos Alberto Nunes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Murillo Albuquerque sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edgard Urbano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Carlos Alberto Nunes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Murillo Albuquerque managed to get in a good position for a shot. Esponjas do Couto's supporters rose to their feet, but Murillo Albuquerque was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Alberto Nunes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Horizonte EC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
