Elano Machado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Elano Machado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bebeto Custódio, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. In the 20th match minute, flamengo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bebeto Custódio to maneuver through the defense. Elano Machado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bebeto Custódio in the 34th minute of play. After 35 played minutes flamengo got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Gustavo Carvalho. The flamengo fans' excitement grew in the 37th match minute when flamengo's Luiz Gustavo Carvalho looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Ronaldão de Senna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Artur da Fonseca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tadeu Arruda sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Bebeto Custódio made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, flamengo's goal looked a bit too open when Tadeu Arruda came free, but Artur da Fonseca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 57th minute, Zé Pedro Domingues hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, flamengo's Claudinho Damião got a free kick in the 60th minute. Elano Machado came out of the goal in the 63rd minute to try and stop a shot by flamengo's Fausto Sá. But to his dismay, Fausto Sá quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. 68 minutes into the match, Luiz Gustavo Carvalho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Elano Machado. Cerebrande's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Luiz Gustavo Carvalho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. Dedê Soeiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Artur da Fonseca having to make a save. Luiz Gustavo Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 76 minutes into the match, Claudinho Damião had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Elano Machado. Cerebrande's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Claudinho Damião was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-0. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Bebeto Custódio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 93rd minute Bebeto Custódio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elano Machado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cerebrande's Elano Machado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Gustavo Carvalho in the 94th minute of play. Claudinho Damião took the ball and in the 95 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Elano Machado. Elano Machado dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-0. flamengo's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
