Gilmar Soares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernando Meireles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gilmar Soares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernando Meireles in the 21st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Paula Tejando FC's zone, Tomás Barral stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gilmar Soares came out of the goal and Tomás Barral tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rony Linhares was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Guilherme Pirani. Gilmar Soares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miguel Prata in the 42nd minute of the match. A collision led to Paula Tejando FC getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Laércio Sousa hit a great ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 59 minutes, Silvério Botelho mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paula Tejando FC and the João Pessoa Espectros players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of João Pessoa Espectros booed when Paula Tejando FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Silvério Botelho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tomás Barral came free with the goalkeeper in the 66th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Gilmar Soares could save by the left post. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomás Barral couldn't finish the play.
