The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Biriricas getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Adelino Nóbrega during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Biriricas's Sandrinho Peres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ademar de Toledo in the 14th minute of play. 15 minutes into the match, Jatai's goalkeeper Armando Tavares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Abel Dias. 16 minutes into the game, Josué Tróia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Jatai's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Biriricas the free kick. Josué Tróia hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Jatai's Armando Tavares proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Jatai from getting a goal against them. Armando Tavares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Fábio de Barros, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, Luís Fábio de Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot. When Ademar de Toledo came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Jatai fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ademar de Toledo couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fábio de Barros in the 40th minute of play forced Jatai's goalkeeper Armando Tavares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Geovani Prestes kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Abel Dias received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Armando Tavares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 43 minutes into the match, Abel Dias had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Armando Tavares. Jatai's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Abel Dias was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luís Fábio de Barros was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fábio de Barros in the 52nd minute of play forced Jatai's goalkeeper Armando Tavares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sandrinho Peres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Haroldo Antunes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 56th match minute, Jatai was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Haroldo Antunes to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Jatai getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Fábio da Mata hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Abel Dias in the 65th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Armando Tavares saved Jatai from getting behind. 68 minutes into the match, Jatai's goal looked a bit too open when Abel Dias came free, but Armando Tavares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Biriricas's Luís Fábio de Barros in the 70th minute got a chance for a shot 70th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Jatai's goalie prevented a goal. Sandrinho Peres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Haroldo Antunes in the 76th minute of play. If Abel Dias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 82 played minutes Jatai got a freekick which was hit by Fábio da Mata. Abel Dias blasted a shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Armando Tavares having to make a save. Douglas Neves hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. Armando Tavares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Fábio de Barros in the 88th minute of play. Abel Dias recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Biriricas's Sandrinho Peres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Haroldo Antunes in the 95th minute of play. During the 96th minute of the match Adelino Nóbrega completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Adelino Nóbrega a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Adelino Nóbrega hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match.
