Jataba's Fabinho Bastos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sidnei Silva in the 52nd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Sidney Vides managed to get in a good position for a shot. vasco sc's supporters rose to their feet, but Sidney Vides was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabinho Bastos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 57 minutes into the game, Jataba's Fred Zonta nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. In the 73rd minute Alexandre Seco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Laerte Abraão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Jataba's zone, Sidnei Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabinho Bastos came out of the goal and Sidnei Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Jataba getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Serginho Saldanha hit a great ball. Igor Valadares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Jataba's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Serginho Saldanha during the 96th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Serginho Saldanha kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. The vasco sc manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Jataba to win.
