Humberto Lira might have been able to make a better finish in the 8th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Humberto Alagoano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Humberto Lira ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 11 minutes, Humberto Lira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maripa Futebol Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but Humberto Lira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 12th minute, Ulysses Garcia got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 17 minutes into the match, 09 de Julho's goal looked a bit too open when Humberto Lira came free, but Humberto Alagoano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Maripa Futebol Clube getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Cristian de Toledo hit a great ball. Humberto Lira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Maripa Futebol Clube's Ciro Neto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Washington França in the 25th minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Maripa Futebol Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Sydney Macedo came free, but Ciro Neto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ciro Neto came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by 09 de Julho's Gerson Sousa. But to his dismay, Gerson Sousa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. If Cristian de Toledo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Humberto Lira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maripa Futebol Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Humberto Lira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Humberto Alagoano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ciro Neto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerson Sousa in the 48th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Washington França to make the kick off. When the match had gone on for 58 minutes, Gerson Sousa put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Ciro Neto. Humberto Lira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Humberto Alagoano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 09 de Julho's Washington França got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Humberto Lira in the 74th minute of play forced 09 de Julho's goalkeeper Humberto Alagoano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Maripa Futebol Clube booed when 09 de Julho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patrick Vale didn't get a good kick on the ball. With his leg Ciro Neto managed to avoid a goal in the 86thth minute, when 09 de Julho's Gerson Sousa fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 89 minutes into the game, Washington França recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Ciro Neto. Washington França showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. In the 93rd minute, Washington França fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Gerson Sousa in the 93rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Ciro Neto, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 96 minutes into the match, Maripa Futebol Clube's Ulysses Garcia sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Humberto Alagoano narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Washington França in the 97th minute of play forced Maripa Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Ciro Neto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The 09 de Julho players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
