Corcovado's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zé Augusto Senna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 23 minutes into the match, Corcovado's goalkeeper Zézinho Soares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by João Pedro Gerber. Zé Augusto Senna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 27 minutes of play, Corcovado's Valdo Velasco made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. A hard shot by Marco Lopez from long distance, 43 minutes into the match, got Zézinho Soares's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After the first half Corcovado were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
