Ivo de Lara took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristóvão de Alcântara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Olavo Esteves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Palestra Futebol Clube getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Fausto Andrade hit a great ball. Adilson Meirelles might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Caio Trancoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Polungu's Adilson Meirelles got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 27 minutes, Doriva Soeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palestra Futebol Clube's supporters crossed their fingers, but Doriva Soeiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, Palestra Futebol Clube's Caio Trancoso got control of the ball when Olavo Esteves tried to sneak it across the goal line. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Doriva Soeiro to make the kick off. After 51 minutes, Noel Tasso mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Polungu and the Palestra Futebol Clube players grew even worse after the yellow card.
