In the 36thth minute of the game Vânderson Carneiro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Independente's Michel Varela was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 41 minutes, Michel Varela successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 42nd minute Romário Neto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Michel Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

Michel Varela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nilton Fernandez, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. 74 minutes into the match, Real Iputinga's goalkeeper Luiz Guilherme de Senna had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Régis Neves. Independente's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
