Percival Paraibano's late challenge caught a Itaoca's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 14th minute the ball was on its way in behind Saturno's goalkeeper José Augusto Castro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When the match clock showed 21 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Gláuber Veloso sped through Itaoca's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Basílio Vides. If Sérgio Trigo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Saturno booed when Itaoca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Vítor Sanches didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gláuber Veloso in the 33rd minute of play forced Itaoca's goalkeeper Basílio Vides to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 35 minutes into the match, Saturno's goalkeeper José Augusto Castro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Belmiro Meireles. Basílio Vides made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Percival Paraibano in the 39th minute of play. Sérgio Trigo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Basílio Vides tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Lauro de Lima fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Itaoca's protests and gave Lauro de Lima a yellow card for diving instead. After 42 played minutes Itaoca got a freekick which was hit by Lauro de Lima. 43 minutes into the match, Gláuber Veloso had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Basílio Vides. Itaoca's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gláuber Veloso was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. In the 46th minute, Jeferson Montenegro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The wind increased when Aírton Luz made the kick off in the second half. Itaoca's Basílio Vides played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gláuber Veloso in the 54th minute of play. Sérgio Trigo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Basílio Vides having to interfere. In the 59th minute, Sidney Lara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 64th minute Aírton Luz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José Augusto Castro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 66 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Gláuber Veloso sped through Itaoca's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Basílio Vides. 71 minutes into the match, Saturno's goal looked a bit too open when Belmiro Meireles came free, but José Augusto Castro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 77 played minutes Itaoca got a freekick which was hit by Vicente Travassos. After 79 minutes of play, Saturno's Sérgio Trigo made it 1-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The audience was convinced that Gláuber Veloso's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Basílio Vides was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. In the 94th minute, Gláuber Veloso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Basílio Vides was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-5. When the final whistle sounded Saturno left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Itaoca.
