José Paulo Antunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Murillo Gaúcho having to interfere. Yuri Zanette came out of the goal in the 21st minute to try and stop a shot by SANTOS's Cícero de Amorim. But to his dismay, Cícero de Amorim quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Cícero de Amorim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yuri Zanette having to interfere. The SANTOS fans' excitement grew in the 26th match minute when SANTOS's Duarte Arruda looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. A collision led to Quarany EC getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Tarcisio Vale hit a great ball. Cícero de Amorim received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Yuri Zanette tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Cícero de Amorim came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the SANTOS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cícero de Amorim couldn't finish the play. Cícero de Amorim received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Yuri Zanette tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Denílson Bittencourt to make the kick off. Denílson Bittencourt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 60 minutes into the match, Denílson Bittencourt had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Murillo Gaúcho. SANTOS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Denílson Bittencourt was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-2. After a rather tough play, Quarany EC's Tarcisio Vale got a free kick in the 62nd minute. 67 minutes had been played when some careless play by SANTOS's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Valdir Furlan was slow to take the kick. During this time Quarany EC's players had a chance to rest. Valdir Furlan made a great header on Quarany EC's corner, it was just that SANTOS's Murillo Gaúcho managed to reach the ball for a save. After a defensive mix-up in SANTOS's zone, José Paulo Antunes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Murillo Gaúcho came out of the goal and José Paulo Antunes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 76th minute, José Paulo Antunes made a precise shot to the right of Murillo Gaúcho. SANTOS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. After 80 minutes, Duarte Arruda made it 3-3 with a short kick to the right side. Quarany EC's Yuri Zanette tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by André Luís da Mata in the 85th minute of play forced SANTOS's goalkeeper Murillo Gaúcho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Denílson Bittencourt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Paulo Antunes struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Murillo Gaúcho didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Quarany EC.
