Alan Figueiredo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juvenal de Godoi having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alan Figueiredo in the 5th minute of play forced Cruzeiro EC's goalkeeper Juvenal de Godoi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cássio de Mendonça in the 13th minute of play forced VSKG Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Jardel Falcão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. VSKG Esporte Clube's José Maria Mota suffered a sore foot after 17 minutes and couldn't finish the game. After 17 minutes, Luís Gustavo Fantini mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cruzeiro EC and the VSKG Esporte Clube players grew even worse after the yellow card. Afonso Leão hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. If Alan Figueiredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Rui Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot. VSKG Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Rui Sena was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Juvenal de Godoi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. VSKG Esporte Clube's Felippe Dantas got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

A collision led to VSKG Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Haroldo Leal hit a great ball. Vivaldo Alvarenga, 53 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Cássio de Mendonça managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cruzeiro EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Cássio de Mendonça was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cruzeiro EC's Juvenal de Godoi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alan Figueiredo in the 79th minute of play. Rui Sena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the VSKG Esporte Clube players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
