Ceará S.A were awarded a corner in the 19th minute after SER ITATIAIA's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ulysses de Sousa took the corner. The corner led Ceará S.A's Ulysses de Sousa to fire away a dangerous shot which Fabiën van Steensel despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 20 played minutes SER ITATIAIA got a freekick which was hit by Fernandão Palmeira. Fabiën van Steensel came out of the goal in the 21st minute to try and stop a shot by Ceará S.A's Luiz Fábio Toledo. But to his dismay, Luiz Fábio Toledo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 30 minutes into the match, Ceará S.A's goal looked a bit too open when Marco Mandrak came free, but Germano Lira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 33 minutes, Luiz Fábio Toledo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ceará S.A's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Fábio Toledo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basílio Penha in the 46th minute of play forced Ceará S.A's goalkeeper Germano Lira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
