But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Zé Roberto Vergílio couldn't finish the play. Flamengo's Pedrinho Prado got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Jerônimo Queirós had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joélson Passos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcus Couto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marcus Diniz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Joélson Passos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Pedrinho Prado managed to get in a good position for a shot. Flamengo's supporters rose to their feet, but Pedrinho Prado was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joélson Passos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Flamengo's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
