The supporters of PALMEIRAS booed when Rivers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jefferson Sampaio didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Rivers's zone, João Augusto Martins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eliseu Vidal came out of the goal and João Augusto Martins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mário Rocha scored 1-0 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Eliseu Vidal, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Gustavo Silva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Augusto Martins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eliseu Vidal having to interfere. In the 24th play minute Mário Rocha came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Eliseu Vidal. 2-0. With a little luck, Rivers's Eliseu Vidal got control of the ball when Percy Linares tried to sneak it across the goal line. Henrique Donatello showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gustavo Silva, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. PALMEIRAS were awarded a corner in the 41th minute after Rivers's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Wilson Tasso took the corner. PALMEIRAS's Wilson Tasso was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Eliseu Vidal in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 45th minute, PALMEIRAS's João Augusto Martins ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Eliseu Vidal. Eliseu Vidal yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ulisses Prado to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, João Augusto Martins got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Henrique Donatello took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ulisses Prado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Eliseu Vidal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Augusto Martins in the 61st minute of the match. 70 minutes into the match, PALMEIRAS's goalkeeper Henrique Donatello had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gustavo Silva. If Ulisses Prado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rivers's Gustavo Silva got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Mário Rocha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Dorival Dionísio fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PALMEIRAS's protests and gave Dorival Dionísio a yellow card for diving instead. In the 76th match minute, PALMEIRAS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dorival Dionísio to maneuver through the defense. Carlos Alberto Hoffmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Henrique Donatello having to interfere. If Ulisses Prado had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 84 minutes, Ulisses Prado managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rivers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ulisses Prado was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gustavo Silva got free with Henrique Donatello in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ulisses Prado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Henrique Donatello having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ulisses Prado in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Henrique Donatello saved PALMEIRAS from getting behind.
