After 11 minutes, Geovanni Monteiro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FDS CLUB and the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to FDS CLUB getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Geovanni Monteiro hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in FDS CLUB's zone, Zé Mendes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sydney Neves came out of the goal and Zé Mendes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Josué Santos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sydney Neves having to interfere. In the 19th minute, Zé Mendes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sydney Neves was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 22 minutes into the game, Josué Santos was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FDS CLUB the free kick. Zé Mendes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Sydney Neves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 31st minute, Zé Mendes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Zé Mendes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The crowd rose to their feet as Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Zé Mendes slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Sydney Neves. That made the score 0-4 after 69 minutes of play. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind FDS CLUB's goalkeeper Sydney Neves, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 77 minutes into the game, Zé Mendes lined in a short shot 0-5 behind a frustrated Sydney Neves. If Zé Mendes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sydney Neves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sílvio Luís Matos in the 86th minute of the match.
