XVI De Março booed when Sunderland A.F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Váldson Mota didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Geovânio Luz in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Agnaldo Lara saved Sunderland A.F.C from getting behind. 16 minutes into the match, Sunderland A.F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Humberto de Azevedo came free, but Agnaldo Lara reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Sunderland A.F.C's zone, Fernandinho Alcântara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Agnaldo Lara came out of the goal and Fernandinho Alcântara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Acácio Falcão made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kléber Trevisan in the 21st minute. Kléber Trevisan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Acácio Falcão having to interfere. Genílson Meira's late challenge caught a Sunderland A.F.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Genílson Meira helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 25th minute of the game. One of E.C. XVI De Março:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Sunderland A.F.C:s goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kléber Trevisan got free with Acácio Falcão in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With an all-out effort, Sunderland A.F.C's Acácio Falcão threw himself towards the right post 32 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Rodolfo Dante, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Kléber Trevisan came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Sunderland A.F.C fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kléber Trevisan couldn't finish the play. In the 35th match minute, E.C. XVI De Março was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fernandinho Alcântara to maneuver through the defense. Geovânio Luz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Geovânio Luz came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the E.C. XVI De Março fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Geovânio Luz couldn't finish the play. 48 minutes into the match, E.C. XVI De Março's Humberto de Azevedo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Agnaldo Lara narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rodolfo Dante stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Agnaldo Lara showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Humberto de Azevedo in the 55th minute of the match. In the 56th match minute, Sunderland A.F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rubens de Salles to maneuver through the defense. Humberto de Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Agnaldo Lara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Agnaldo Lara showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Humberto de Azevedo, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Geovânio Luzs short, quick shot in the 85thth minute got Agnaldo Lara to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. A collision led to Sunderland A.F.C getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Cauã Mattos hit a great ball. Geovânio Luz's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 94thth minute, Agnaldo Lara skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
