Severino Souto made an important save on a dangerous shot by Erivaldo da Rocha in the 18th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Unidade Popular's goal looked a bit too open when Valdomiro Valladares came free, but Tomás Carvalho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Manuel Dante fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Unidade Popular's protests and gave Manuel Dante a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Unidade Popular's Manuel Dante got a free kick in the 21st minute. Unidade Popular's Erivaldo da Rocha got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cianita's Severino Souto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lenílson Guerra in the 29th minute of play. Erivaldo da Rocha blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Severino Souto having to make a save. 44 minutes into the game, Amílton Silveira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Tomás Carvalho was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Cianita were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Erivaldo da Rocha to make the kick off. Amílton Silveira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Tomás Carvalho made a huge save. Unidade Popular's Lenílson Guerra suffered a sore thigh after 77 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alberto Fonseca during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When Erivaldo da Rocha came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Unidade Popular fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Erivaldo da Rocha couldn't finish the play. After 93 minutes of play, Unidade Popular's Luiz Fábio Cabral made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Severino Souto was left in no man's land by his defense there! It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Unidade Popular had played much better football throughout.
