When the match had been going on for 61 minutes, Thiagueira FC's Angelo Guimarães got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Enio Montenegro. In the 66th minute, Serafim Matos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Enio Montenegro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Franklin Cunha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 69 played minutes Santelmo FC got a freekick which was hit by Chico Motta. Reinaldo de Brito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Enio Montenegro having to interfere. Zé Paulo Camargo received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nilson Arantes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vito Carneiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. In the 79th minute, Flávio dos Santos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
