The crowd rose to their feet as Raphael Gaúcho kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Giovani Salles. That made the score 1-0 in the 14 minute of play. Itatiaiucu's Giovani Salles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raphael Gaúcho in the 18th minute of play. Adelino Moreno didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Erasmo Bertassi went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Giovani Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raphael Gaúcho in the 25th minute of play. In the 26th minute Raphael Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Giovani Salles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Carneiro in the 28th minute of play forced Baianos FC's goalkeeper Adelino Moreno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Baianos FC's Adelino Moreno played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erasmo Bertassi in the 31st minute of play. After some careless play in the Itatiaiucu defense, Raphael Gaúcho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Giovani Salles. The Itatiaiucu fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Giovani Salles should have stopped the shot. Eurico Pirani hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Jano de Azevedo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Adelino Moreno. Baianos FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Dedê Vergílio hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. Itatiaiucu's Christian Carneiro got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-1.

The wind increased when Erasmo Bertassi made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Itatiaiucu booed when Baianos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luizinho Pernambucano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Erasmo Bertassi in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Adelino Moreno prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 59 played minutes Itatiaiucu got a freekick which was hit by Angelo Fernandes. The supporters of Itatiaiucu booed when Baianos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulão Borges didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 72nd match minute, Baianos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dedê Vergílio to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice moves Christian Carneiro could shoot a difficult shot in the 75th minute, which Adelino Moreno however easily saved by the left post. After 83 played minutes Itatiaiucu got a freekick which was hit by Luís Fabiano Santana. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kaká Moura during the 88th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 89 played minutes Itatiaiucu got a freekick which was hit by Kaká Moura. A hard shot 91 in the game by Christian Carneiro from a close distance when the talented Adelino Moreno managed to make a qualified save. Baianos FC's players were relieved. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Baianos FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Itatiaiucu had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
