Rogério Ferraz hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 40 minutes, Dinei Barbosa took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Celsinho Tinoco to make any attempt to save it. Celsinho Tinoco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amauri Breckenfeld in the 45th minute of the match. In the 48th minute, Rômulo Lopes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The São Paulo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zé Baptista to make the kick off. When Lauro Negri fell near the penalty area in the 70th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tubaroes's protests and gave Lauro Negri a yellow card for diving instead.
