Luizinho Pontes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Paulo Faria in the 23rd minute of play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 26th minute of the game. One of Fluminense:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ibaretama AD:s goal. In the 28th minute there was a penalty for Ibaretama AD. Remo Fernandez stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Luizinho Pontes. 1-1. In the 33rd minute, Aníbal Saldanha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ibaretama AD's Breno Paranaense proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Ibaretama AD from getting a goal against them. In the 38th minute, Zé Paulo Faria ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Luizinho Pontes was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Ronaldo Mattos could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Breno Paranaense made a huge save. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Zé Paulo Faria made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Álvaro Borges got free with Luizinho Pontes in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dé Trigo hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. If Aníbal Saldanha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 59th minute Ronaldo Mattos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Breno Paranaense saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 59 minutes into the game, Yuri Maciel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ibaretama AD's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fluminense the free kick. Fluminense's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cido Goiano in the 63rd minute. Cido Goiano made a great header on Fluminense's corner, it was just that Ibaretama AD's Breno Paranaense managed to reach the ball for a save. Aníbal Saldanha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fluminense's Luizinho Pontes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Paulo Faria in the 70th minute of play. Yuri Maciel was shown his second yellow card after 72 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 72nd match minute, Ibaretama AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Yuri Maciel to maneuver through the defense. In the 77th minute, Aníbal Saldanha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Álvaro Borgess short, quick shot in the 96thth minute got Luizinho Pontes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Ibaretama AD walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
