The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lapa's Carlos Cabral got a good chance for a goal in the 4th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cléber da Mata showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Cabral, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. In the 8th minute, Yuri Simões hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Amazônia SC's Chicão Paraibano got a free kick in the 16th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Carlos Cabral in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Cléber da Mata prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Edu Marquez came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Lapa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edu Marquez couldn't finish the play. José Pedro Cardozo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cléber da Mata having to make a save. Hugo Melo's late challenge caught a Lapa's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Hugo Melo helped the player get up and apologised. Hugo Melo hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After having played for 27 minutes, Carlos Cabral managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lapa's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Cabral was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Lapa getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Luiz Eduardo Leme hit a great ball. Amazônia SC's Chicão Paraibano couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 29th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Lapa. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Carlos Cabral in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cléber da Mata saved Amazônia SC from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Amazônia SC's zone, Edu Marquez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cléber da Mata came out of the goal and Edu Marquez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 33rd minute of the game. One of Lapa:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Amazônia SC:s goal. Lapa:s Sérgio Urbano showed great skill when he stopped Chicão Paraibano:s penalty. In the 38th match minute, Lapa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Eduardo Leme to maneuver through the defense. Diamantino Abreu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sérgio Urbano having to interfere. 48 minutes into the match, Lapa's José Pedro Cardozo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cléber da Mata narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Carlos Cabral was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Lapa booed when Amazônia SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diamantino Abreu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Amazônia SC defense, Carlos Cabral kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cléber da Mata. The Amazônia SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cléber da Mata should have stopped the shot. Lapa played a much better game than Amazônia SC and deserved their victory. The Amazônia SC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
