Luiz Paulo Penha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edinho Furlan having to interfere. Luiz Paulo Penha struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Edinho Furlan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Itaguacu SC. Sidney Ferreira might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Edinho Furlan. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sidney Ferreira ran back to his position shaking his head. Capalazia's Edinho Furlan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Paulo Penha in the 33rd minute of play. Ademar Leme charged in rather forcefully in the 36th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ademar Leme the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 36th minute, Ademar Leme hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 41st minute, Luiz Paulo Penha got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 43 minutes, Sidney Ferreira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itaguacu SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sidney Ferreira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alexsandro Jacinto was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Capalazia's zone, Virgílio Fonseca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edinho Furlan came out of the goal and Virgílio Fonseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Luiz Paulo Penha came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Itaguacu SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luiz Paulo Penha couldn't finish the play. If Luiz Paulo Penha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alexsandro Jacinto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 66th minute Alexsandro Jacinto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Régis Barros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fiori Castro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Capalazia's Edinho Furlan got control of the ball when Luiz Paulo Penha tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Itaguacu SC getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Edgard Braga hit a great ball. Itaguacu SC were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Capalazia to leave the ground with a draw.
