After a rather tough play, Calamar's Luiz Fernando Trigo got a free kick in the 18th minute. Acadêmicos F.C's Tiaguinho dos Santos shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 20th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Afonso Vasconcelos but with some difficulty. After a defensive mix-up in Calamar's zone, Armando Peres stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonso Vasconcelos came out of the goal and Armando Peres tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 26th match minute, Acadêmicos F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Belmiro Trevisan to maneuver through the defense. Belmiro Trevisan kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Armando Peres might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Afonso Vasconcelos. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Armando Peres ran back to his position shaking his head.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Juarês Salgado to make the kick off. José Carlos Recife recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 54 minutes into the game, Acadêmicos F.C's Armando Peres nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Reginaldo Trevisan received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dráuzio Recife came out and tried to block the shot, but Reginaldo Trevisan slotted it home off the left post making it 3-1 in the 97th minute. There was no doubt that Acadêmicos F.C were the better team. Acadêmicos F.C's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
