The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Raúl Velasco made a fantastic save in the 4th minute, when Juninho Godoi sent off a good shot on target. Raúl Velasco came out and tried to block the shot, but Zé Augusto de Andrade slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 7th minute. If Zé Augusto de Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Murillo Simões received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Rodriguinho Gaspar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Preguica's goalkeeper Rodriguinho Gaspar, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Preguica's Rodriguinho Gaspar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Murillo Simões in the 30th minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves Juninho Godoi could shoot a difficult shot in the 32nd minute, which Raúl Velasco however easily saved by the left post. Rodriguinho Gaspar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Murillo Simões, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Alex Santos came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Preguica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alex Santos couldn't finish the play. Juninho Godoi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

A collision led to Preguica getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Luiz Eduardo Freire hit a great ball.
