Dida Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Serafim Guimarães in the 7th minute of play. Dida Salles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Serafim Guimarães, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Serafim Guimarães in the 28th minute of play forced Novatos's goalkeeper Dida Salles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Enrique Damião struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Francisco Barbosa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Novatos. The supporters of Novatos booed when Jumirim was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Téo França didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 45th match minute, Novatos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Júlio Correia to maneuver through the defense. In the 47th minute of the match Silvério de Almeida sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dida Salles skillfully saved the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Novatos's Dida Salles proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Novatos from getting a goal against them. The referee felt a red card was in order, 57 minutes into the game, when Claudinei Montenegro put in a rough tackle. Dida Salles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alexsandro Luz in the 58th minute of the match. The throw-in from Genílson da Cunha in the 60th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Novatos's Júlio Correia. After having played for 61 minutes, Zé Augusto Miranda managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Novatos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zé Augusto Miranda was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dida Salles came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Jumirim's Osvaldinho de Lima. But to his dismay, Osvaldinho de Lima quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The supporters of Novatos booed when Jumirim was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Arantes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Francisco Barbosa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zé Augusto Miranda, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Jumirim defense, Zé Augusto Miranda kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Francisco Barbosa. The Jumirim fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Francisco Barbosa should have stopped the shot. After 76 played minutes Novatos got a freekick which was hit by Guga Diniz. Jumirim's Francisco Barbosa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Augusto Miranda in the 78th minute of play. 81 minutes into the match, Novatos's goal looked a bit too open when Serafim Guimarães came free, but Dida Salles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 88 minutes into the match, Jumirim's goal looked a bit too open when Júlio Correia came free, but Francisco Barbosa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 90 minutes, Júlio Correia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Novatos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Júlio Correia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cristian Loureiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but Dida Salles made a huge save. Enrique Damião's late challenge caught a Jumirim's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Enrique Damião helped the player get up and apologised. After 96 played minutes Novatos got a freekick which was hit by Enrique Damião. Despite being the better team, Novatos failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
