Palestra Vale's Doni Damião got control of the ball when Renato Sarmento tried to sneak it across the goal line. Renato Sarmento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doni Damião having to interfere. The supporters of Ermo EC booed when S.E. Palestra Vale was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcinho Aparecido didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hortêncio Eger scored 0-2 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ricardinho Abreu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ermo EC's Ricardinho Abreu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hortêncio Eger in the 23rd minute of play. 30 minutes into the game, Jarbas Salgado was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ermo EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave S.E. Palestra Vale the free kick. Jarbas Salgado kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. When Hortêncio Eger came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the S.E. Palestra Vale fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hortêncio Eger couldn't finish the play. Iuri Sousa was extremely unlucky when he, in the 38th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. An unexpectedly hard shot by Iuri Sousa in the 41st minute of play forced S.E. Palestra Vale's goalkeeper Doni Damião to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hortêncio Eger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardinho Abreu having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Iuri Sousa stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Renato Sarmento struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Palestra Vale was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcinho Aparecido to maneuver through the defense. 62 minutes into the match, Ermo EC's goalkeeper Ricardinho Abreu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Manoel de Alcântara. Doni Damião showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jarbas Salgado, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. Doni Damião stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Renato Sarmento's shot from short distance in the 87th minute. After a defensive mix-up in S.E. Palestra Vale's zone, Iuri Sousa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doni Damião came out of the goal and Iuri Sousa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. S.E. Palestra Vale walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
