A collision led to Da Matta E.C. getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Emerson Fontes hit a great ball. The long shot by Arthur Rosado in the 20th minute really tested Jânio Dias's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. The supporters of S.E. Palestra Vale booed when Da Matta E.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emerson Fontes didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Gualter Schmidt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Da Matta E.C. booed when S.E. When Hortêncio Eger came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the S.E. Palestra Vale fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hortêncio Eger couldn't finish the play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Gualter Schmidt made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manoel de Alcântara in the 58th minute of play forced Da Matta E.C.'s goalkeeper Jânio Dias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hortêncio Eger took the ball and in the 65 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jânio Dias. Jânio Dias dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Gualter Schmidt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Doni Damião tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Edmílson Cruz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Manoel de Alcântara scored 2-0 in the 72nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jânio Dias, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
