After a defensive mix-up in S.E. Palestra Vale's zone, Víktor Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doni Damião came out of the goal and Víktor Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Manoel de Alcântara got free with Nilmar Quirino in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Manoel de Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Manoel de Alcântara recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 24th minute, Francisco Monteiro sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Canarama's Nilmar Quirino didn't even have to move. Canarama's Nilmar Quirino proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Canarama from getting a goal against them. Remo de Sena fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doni Damião having to interfere. In the 33rd match minute, S.E. Palestra Vale was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcinho Aparecido to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 34 minutes, Remo de Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Canarama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Remo de Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Olavo Bastos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Doni Damião tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Víktor Magalhães managed to get in a good position for a shot. Canarama's supporters rose to their feet, but Víktor Magalhães was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Doni Damião breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Canarama booed when S.E. Palestra Vale was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wilian Mendonça didn't get a good kick on the ball. Víktor Magalhães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Olavo Bastos struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Doni Damião didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Canarama. 46 minutes into the game, Canarama's Remo de Sena nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Doni Damião made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After the first half Canarama were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Remo de Sena to make the kick off. Canarama's Nilmar Quirino played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcinho Aparecido in the 61st minute of play. José Pedro Messias charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed José Pedro Messias the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. José Pedro Messias hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. If Remo de Sena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
