But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jânio Soares couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Moisés Bastos took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Cauã Prestes to make any attempt to save it. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Kauan de Almeida made a kick off. Osmar Barbosa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jânio Soares's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. In the 53rd match minute, Vasto AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benjamin Hermes to maneuver through the defense. Cauã Prestes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kauan de Almeida, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Vasco da Gama booed when Vasto AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cauã Prestes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frédson Meira in the 89th minute of play. An unexpected shot in the 91st minute by Rafael Paes got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 97 minutes into the match, Vasco da Gama's goal looked a bit too open when Jânio Soares came free, but Osmar Barbosa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
