Claudinei Teles came out of the goal in the 5th minute to try and stop a shot by Palestra's Naldo França. But to his dismay, Naldo França quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 8th minute Belmiro Travassos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudinei Teles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Palestra's Vitório Catarinense proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save Palestra from getting a goal against them. In the 11th minute the ball was on its way in behind Palestra's goalkeeper Vitório Catarinense, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With a little luck, Palestra's Vitório Catarinense got control of the ball when Rubinho Leão tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some careless play in the IMW Aracruz F.C. defense, Naldo França kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Claudinei Teles. The IMW Aracruz F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Claudinei Teles should have stopped the shot. In the 21st match minute, Palestra was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Giuseppe de Souza to maneuver through the defense. Rubinho Leão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vitório Catarinense having to interfere. The supporters of IMW Aracruz F.C. booed when Palestra was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oscar Dracena didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Rubinho Leão managed to get in a good position for a shot. IMW Aracruz F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Rubinho Leão was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vitório Catarinense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Belmiro Travassos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Palestra's Naldo França got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Rubinho Leão could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 35th minute of the match, but Vitório Catarinense made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zeca Camargo in the 36th minute of play forced Palestra's goalkeeper Vitório Catarinense to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th minute, Belmiro Travassos left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palestra fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zeca Camargo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Claudinei Teles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogério Bastos in the 51st minute of the match. After 52 minutes of play, IMW Aracruz F.C.'s Rubinho Leão made it 2-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Vitório Catarinense was left in no man's land by his defense there! Rubinho Leão sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Naldo França in the 61st minute of play forced IMW Aracruz F.C.'s goalkeeper Claudinei Teles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Claudinei Teles was a little too slow when Naldo França got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 65th minute. The score was now 2-4. In the 76thth minute of the game Rubinho Leão who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Palestra's Vitório Catarinense was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 79 minutes, Belmiro Travassos made it 2-5 with a short kick to the right side. IMW Aracruz F.C.'s Claudinei Teles tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 82nd match minute, IMW Aracruz F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kiko Santana to maneuver through the defense. Zeca Camargo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vitório Catarinense having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in IMW Aracruz F.C.'s zone, Rogério Bastos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Claudinei Teles came out of the goal and Rogério Bastos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 97 minutes into the game, Belmiro Travassos cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-6. Claudinei Teles was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Palestra walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
