Jânio Bittencourt came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by Iutica's Marquinhos Castro. But to his dismay, Marquinhos Castro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. After a rather tough play, Iutica's Glauco Cardoso got a free kick in the 20th minute. João Paulo Guerra sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Délio Leme didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Leonel Paraibano went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. 33 minutes into the match, Pernas de Pau's goal looked a bit too open when Cléber Cunha came free, but Jânio Bittencourt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Pernas de Pau's Luís Gustavo Zonta got a free kick in the 38th minute. With his leg Jânio Bittencourt managed to avoid a goal in the 40thth minute, when Iutica's Marquinhos Castro fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Délio Leme took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Paulo Guerra, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jânio Bittencourt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cléber Cunha, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell João Paulo Guerra to make the kick off. If Marquinhos Castro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Pernas de Pau's João Paulo Guerra slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Délio Leme. That made the score 2-2 after 64 minutes of play. After a rather tough play, Pernas de Pau's Edu de Sousa got a free kick in the 67th minute. Jânio Bittencourt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marquinhos Castro in the 70th minute of play. The supporters of Iutica booed when Pernas de Pau was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romeu Esteves didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernando Reis during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
