With a couple of smart ball manuevers Evaristo Mendonça in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rodolfo Quadros saved Tapiraim from getting behind. Jardel Dias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benedito Neto having to interfere. Benedito Neto made an important save on a dangerous shot by Luiz Guilherme Mineiro in the 32nd minute. In the 35th minute, Tapiraim's Jardel Dias ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Benedito Neto. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jairo Breckenfeld in the 39th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rodolfo Quadros prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Váldson Esteves charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Váldson Esteves the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Tapiraim booed when U. S. Soccer was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Váldson Esteves didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 46 minutes, Luiz Guilherme Mineiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tapiraim's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Guilherme Mineiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, U. S. Soccer's Váldson Esteves got a free kick in the 47th minute. Tapiraim's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Emílio Gerber in the 50th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of U. S. Soccer's goalie and right to Rômulo Galvão. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. U. S. Soccer's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal.
