Anísio Lucas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júnior Couto having to interfere. When Cássio Campidelis came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Saboo EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cássio Campidelis couldn't finish the play. In the 13thth minute of the game Alfredão Linares who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Saboo EC's Júnior Couto was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Saboo EC's André Mota slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Luiz Paulo Cosme. That made the score 1-0 after 15 minutes of play. Saboo EC's Márcio Pombal got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The EC Cubatão fans' excitement grew in the 28th match minute when EC Cubatão's José Maria Simão looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. A collision led to Saboo EC getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. André Mota hit a great ball. Luiz Paulo Cosme made an important save on a dangerous shot by Márcio Pombal in the 34th minute. When Anísio Lucas fell near the penalty area in the 34th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored EC Cubatão's protests and gave Anísio Lucas a yellow card for diving instead. In the 37th minute of the match Saboo EC got a corner. EC Cubatão's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tiaguinho Amorim ran over to the corner to take the kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by André Mota in the 45th minute of play forced EC Cubatão's goalkeeper Luiz Paulo Cosme to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Márcio Pombal kicked well hit freekick during the 48th minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When Manuel da Rocha fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. In the 63rd minute, Alfredão Linares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. José Maria Simão in the 68thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Júnior Couto, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Alfredão Linares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Júnior Couto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 73 minutes of play, Saboo EC's Márcio Pombal made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Luiz Paulo Cosme was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of EC Cubatão booed when Saboo EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enrique de Azevedo didn't get a good kick on the ball. André Mota ran back to his position shaking his head. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Saboo EC fans cheered their team off the field, for while EC Cubatão had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
