The audience was convinced that Reinaldo Rosado's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Júnior Couto was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. In the 34th minute, André Mota fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Sidney Braga, passed just outside the right post. When Reinaldo Rosado came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Cairú Futebol Clube fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reinaldo Rosado couldn't finish the play. Saboo EC's André Mota got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell André Mota to make the kick off. Sidney Braga was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
